About the Phoenix Concert Band

The Phoenix Concert Band was formed to provide adult wind, brass and percussion players with the opportunity to perform together in the format of a community wind band.

The band had its first rehearsal in August 2001 at Ability Mencap, Chesterfield and relocated to its present rehearsal venue, Hasland Methodist Church as numbers grew.

To date we attract a membership of approximately thirty players with a myriad of age ranges and professions from the surrounding counties of South Yorkshire, North Notts, Derbyshire and the Lincolnshire borders.

The band aims to combine the honing of musical skills with a friendly, enjoyable rehearsal atmosphere.

A varied selection of music is played, ranging from marches, selections from musicals, film music, solos and contemporary works for wind band to satisfy all musical tastes.

Since its formation, the band has welcomed the opportunity to perform at many outdoor venues such as Chatsworth House, Queen’s Park Bandstand, Chesterfield and the Westfield Centre, Derby.  The band has also performed concerts to raise money for numerous charities including The Children of Chernobyl Appeal, NSPCC, Water Aid, Megan’s Pool, Ashgate Croft School, Mayor of Chesterfield Appeal, Macmillan Nurses, The Stroke Society and the Tibshelf School Tsunami Appeal.
